I’ve updated the Our Game Collection link in the sidebar on the right to point to the newly-updated IGN.com collection page, if you are interested in seeing how many games we own. Our collection is border-line ridiculous right now, with over 600 unique titles and 30-something doubles. The NES, SNES, N64 and GameBoy (original and Color) games are largely from Nad’s collection, while the PC, Genesis, Sega CD, 32X, Saturn, Game Gear, and Dreamcast games are mostly mine.
When we moved in together back in twenty-double-ought, we combined our personal collections into one large library. Now with the GameCube, GameBoy Advance, Nintendo DS, Xbox and Xbox 360, they are “our” games. If only we had the room to display them all in one place instead of scattering them through the house like they are now.
Update: By the way, that page can be slow to load. It loads images for most of the games in the list.
Update #2: A ridiculously sized collection would have 1,459 or 2,866 games in it. I tried to track down images of what the actual libraries looks like (I’ve seen them before), but I can’t find them anywhere. These guys have entire rooms dedicated to displaying their games and other game-related swag.

[12:59] Brandt: DS comes out Sunday
[12:59] Brandt: you gettin one?
[13:51] Will: i will say now that “no i won’t”
[13:51] Will: but at 7AM on Sunday i’ll be on line to buy one
I know how my terrible gaming affliction works. I feign disinterest for months leading up to the release of a new handheld, then I soak up as much info about it as possible during the days before it hits stores. Instead of reserving the console, like a smart consumer, I lie to myself saying, “I’ll wait till a week after launch.” On release day, my passing interest for the new device transforms into a lust for it. I hunt for my precious like a madman, not stopping until I have it in my grubby hands.
The above occurs with handhelds only. With consoles, I’m usually a lot better prepared. Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox 360, each reserved months in advance. The Xbox was bought shortly before Christmas break. Previous consoles were gifts from my parents when I was in school.
Target was my store of choice for the GBA, GBA SP, DS, and GBm. I will continue the tradition and head over to Target early Sunday morning to get one before I head down to DC for some baseball action.
Sunday evening update:

Joystiq posted an entry about certain stores breaking the street date for the DS lite. I told myself that I would wait until the blue DSL comes out in the future. I tried to fight the urge, but I couldn’t. I visited my local Target and Walmart in the midst of running errands to find one. I was unable to track one down yesterday, which was both a dissapointment (I really wanted one) and a bit of a relief (I don’t really need one). This lust for gadgets is a terrible curse that I have, and keeping it under control is tough.
After the brief search and errand-running, I came home to a kitchen covered in shit. Apparantly, the dog decided to wait until I left to take a dump on the floor, instead of going when I walked her. This wouldn’t have been a huge deal if she just left a steaming pile in the corner or something. No, that isn’t what happened at all. She smeared it. Everywhere.
In the process of cleaning up her mess, I damn near killed myself. Misunderstanding Nadia’s instructions, I did the following:
It was only a matter of time before the still-steaming water carried the bleach upward into the air and up my nose. My eyes dried out, breathing became very difficult, and faintness came over me, even with windows open. I ran outside as fast as I could to get away from that. I had to wait it out before going back in there to continue cleaning up.
I’ll probably do a happy dance once Nad’s family reclaims their dog. So will the cats.
