It means ‘Hope’ which is also what Nadia means. This brings my total to 6 (5 on my back, with one not shown in this picture, and 1 on my leg).
Edit (by Will): I wrote a long post back in May ’05 about Nad’s neck tattoo, which I also have.
The one on her shoulder says “yume” (dream). Those are a pair of butterflies on her shoulder blades. Running down her back, starting in the middle, she’s got a Chinese dragon that stretches to her tailbone. She’s got an elaborate one on her leg with the names of family members that have passed away in recent years.
That’s a great way to honour the passed away family members…
Do you always update the tattoo everytime your family passed away?
I haven’t added any new butterflies since January, but that is the plan. I hope not to add any for a very long time…
