Over the years we all grow emotionally attached and there's nothing wrong with that. Pets do becomes a family member and its basically the same level of diffuculty when it comes to a member of your family being striped of their life. Its a tough choice. Its not easy.

Jo and I just got Rocky in January and this guy is us. We don't do anything witout taking him into consideration. Whats going to crack my heart is if something similar to the choice you made for Cleo, Whisker, and Harmoni was place into my dofgs life. It'll actually kill me. But I understand your point of veiw and I think I share that same thought when it come to life.

I do believe that it is okay to put the animal down, but only once I know what was ailing it. I never want an animal to suffer just so I can spend a couple more hours with it. Unlike this situation, you knew exactly what was wrong with your kitties before putting them down. With Cleo, Whiskers and Harmoni, we knew what was wrong with them before putting them down. It eats at me that I didn't know what was wrong with Tiki and that is what i disagree with most - not knowing...

Thanks for your sympathy.

I would never judge someone else's feelings, but I do believe it can be OK to put a pet to sleep.

The two cats I grew up with were put to sleep in old age -- one had hyperthyroidism and was painfully wasting away; the other got dementia and was constantly howling in fear about nothing.

While it was emotionally hard, I think it was the right thing, to let them rest in peace instead of live in pain.

Either way, it's one hell of a tough choice, and you have my sympathy.

I found myself becoming much more attached to this cat than I thought I would. I can't count how many times I asked Nadia "when is he leaving?"

After a while, I just got used to his (loud) howling in the middle of the night asking to go outside, how he crawled up next to Patches whenever she wasn't looking, and how he'd park himself right next to Nad as she slept. Even his ninja-like ability to escape even when he was being directly observed. I counted 15 successful escape attempts in the month of June!

He really did become one of the family in his short time with us. You'll be missed Dr. Tikitron of Wysteria Lane (a needlessly long nickname I made up for him).
