Was It Always This Hard?

Street Fighter screenshotsStreet Fighter screenshots

I remember way back when in high school when Street Fighter II was pretty much my entire life. When I wasn’t in class, I was playing this game; whether it was in the arcade after school or in Nadia’s living room or in my bedroom, I was constantly working on my tried-and-true flying-fierce-fierce-fireball technique with Ken. I’d even show off by doing multiple dragon punches of varying strengths to keep my opponent away from me. I could beat this game in my sleep. Now that Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting has found its way to the Xbox Live Arcade, I have been able to play this classic again on my favorite next-gen system (never mind the fact that I have a version of this game for almost every platform available).

If I was so good at it, then why the hell did I just struggle through the game? I would think that some of that skill was still in me, but it took me 32 matches to complete the game. 32, on the lowest difficulty! For what, 12 opponents? That’s just sad. I’ll keep working on my game and try to get that down to a respectable number, like 12.

  • New DOA Movie Trailer

My love for the Dead or Alive series makes me hope that the movie will be good, but you and I both know that it will be trash. It won’t even be “good for a movie that’s based on a game.”

Take a look at the new trailer (it is in German).

  • Games On Reserve

Phantasy Star Universe cover artWe’ve got a long list of games on reserve. While we typically pick games up as they come out, the summer drought has gotten us in the mood to drop some dollars on something game-related. Spread across four consoles, here’s what we are waiting on:

    1. Star Fox Command (DS)
    2. Children of Mana (DS)
    3. Final Fantasy III (DS) x2
    4. Phantasy Star Universe (360) x2, pictured
    5. Baten Kaitos (GCN)
    6. Test Drive Unlimited (360)
    7. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)
    8. Gears of War Collector’s Edition (360)

Technically, Zelda is reserved for the Cube, since Nintendo has yet to announce a release date for the Wii. As soon as they give us a date, I’ll be in the store to drop $50 on the console.

    Did we miss any titles?
